Scanning for Syria Project Awarded European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2020
The Scanning for Syria (SfS) project has been awarded a prestigious Europa Nostra Award in the category research. This collaboration of the LDE alliance through our Centre, with the Catholic University of Louvain and Heidelberg University was lead by dr. ir. Dominique Ngan-Tillard, and has been dedicated to the late dr. Olivier Nieuwenhuijse who initiated the project.

Maarten Jansen Decorated with Order of the Lion of the Netherlands.
Archaeologist Maarten Jansen, professor emeritus of Mesoamerican Archaeology and History at Leiden University, was appointed Knight in the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands (Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw) last April.

New Researchers
Naomi Oosterman
As a lecturer at the Department of Arts and Culture Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam, dr. Oosterman specialises in analysing art crime and the impact it has on policing, cultural policy, and the securitisation of private and public museums. She is a great addition to our Heritage under Threat research theme.

Özgün Özçakır 
Trained as an architect and having specialized in the preservation field, dr. Özçakır is now a post-doc researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam, School of History, Culture and Communication, Department of Arts and Culture Studies. His interests mostly revolve around the economics of cultural heritage, “heritage-led” place branding, values of cultural heritage, and heritage impact assessment.

Bruno de Andrade
Bruno de Andrade is an Assistant Professor in Heritage, Values, and Project Decisions for Sustainability at the UNESCO Heritage & Values chair, Heritage & Architecture section, the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft. In his research dr. de Andrade looks at Heritage and Sustainability through Cultural Heritage Information Systems (CHIS) to represent heritage values and re-design historical sites and 3D Modelling and design of Heritage Games for civic engagement.

Together with four mayor Dutch museums, the Centre for Global Heritage and Development organizes a summer school to learn how museums contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
